Hi guys
I need help with our Vista Home Premium PC.

Yesterday a message popped up. This file has been infected(don’t know which file srry)
Click here to restart your pc and solve the problem. So I clicked yes.
Then the PC restarted and I saw a few messages popping up when the desktop came up.

Windows media player, Nero Home, Windows Sidebar and one windows program we’re “broke”. The problem was that there we’re files missing or the was a fault in some of the files.

We can’t access any hard drive portable drive (memory stick, ...). But we have a backup of our files so that’s isn’t the problem. But we can’t fix is. Windows repair, reboot how is it called in English…. Don’t work.

The only thing we can do is format. But we can’t do this ourselves. Or we should need to bring him to the ¨PC shop. (which we’ll do if nobody knows a solution.)

So does ANYBODY have a solution for this???? (Man I KILL MR GATES… :mad)

maybe that crisp can help me outof this problem....
Thx in adv. (need a lot of help plzzz) :cry

Bennieboj

have you tried phoning the helpline? That's all I can think of other than take it to the PC Shop

Nope scots, but on those helpline you'll never get a REAL answer. Cuz they don't know everything. and this is a virus or something. The only thing they'll say is just format your whole PC this is too complicated for us. O yeah and which helpline should we call?.
  • Microsoft
  • Panda Antivirus Labs
  • Nero Home
  • Virus removers...

We just found out that one of the broken programs is a file from our Panda Antivirus. "AVLtMain.exe" (the file "WININET.dll" is missing).

btw thanks for the fast response man! :cheers .

Sorry Bennie, I have not used Vista yet, it has too many bugs.

I would suggest you learn how to format and re-install for the future.

Never heard of Panda maybe you should consider a better AV solution, here is a good review site http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/

Good luck mate!

Do you have the Vista CD ready? Boot the the PC with it in the drive and press any key to boot from CD when the message appears.

Good luck mate

Good work Bennie, maybe you need to get a better AV solution.

in the future, if you ever encounter a problem you just can't solve, reboot in safe mode, and load a previous system restore point. You do take the time to make a full system restore point right? Its a pain but its unbelievably handy to have around if you run into trouble.

well, if you do a full backup, ie take an image of your entire harddrive, even when a file becomes corrupt or gets overwritten, you would be able to restore. the only problem is that you may lose everything since you created that save pt, although there are ways around that too depending on what sort of problem you are having.

If the file is a file in the windows dir you can always try just throwing your windows cd in and repairing too.

But in any case I realize all this is way too late..and my A+ tests were a long time ago....I have forgotten about 90% of everything I have learned lol!

What i would do is pull out my hard drive, connect it to another computer, delete the programs that you say dont work, and put the hard drive back in your computer.

The way I told you in an earlier post, by loading the RAID driver (supplied with the mainboard) from floppy disk at the start of a clean install ;P

and thats why I am glad I am not a computer tech repairman. I'd have fits trying to remember how to deal with all this.

Personally I just image my entire harddrive to a usb harddrive every couple weeks, and let it do it while I am sleeping. Then if I ever have a problem I just swap HDs and off i go.

As risky as it is to not have a backup in place, striping seems insanely risky imho, if either HD goes your outta luck...
