Hi RE Virus:

Here is my YouTube upload in which I attempt to "get SSX3 Combo scores right," but am five points off in my calculation. Here is the text which accompanies my YouTube video:

Perpendiculous SSX3 Combo Calculations

Hi YouTubers:

I started with a score of 92,860 points prior to beginning a five X-X Combo in Perpendiculous. During the Combo, I attained scores of 80,670 points, 80,770 points, 80,720 points, 81,100 points, and 81,140 points. I calculated that my non-Combo scores would total 497260 points (i.e., when added to my preexisting 92,860 point total) would yield a score of 497,260 points. My SSX3 video game confirmed that I accurately calculated my non-Combo scores.

I then used the SSX3 formula, which is used for calculating Combo scores. Specifically, the formula is as follows: (Base Score – Style Points)*((0.5) + (Combo)*(0.05)) = Combo Score. I tried diligently to crunch the numbers for the second part of my calculation, which I will show below.

First X-X: (80,670 pts. - 330 style pts.)*(0.55) = 44,187 pts.
Second X-X: (80,770 pts. – 160 style pts.)*(0.6) = 48,366 pts.
Third X-X: (80,720 pts. – 340 style pts.)*(0.65) = 52,247 pts.
Fourth X-X: (81,100 pts. – 240 style pts.)*(0.7) = 56,602 pts.
Fifth X-X: (81,140 pts. – 330 style pts.)*(0.75) = 60,607.5 pts.

When my Combo score (262,009.5 points) is added to my non-Combo score (497,260 points), I receive a total score of 759,269.5 points—4.5 points higher than the computer game score, which is 759,265 points. I am asking anyone who possesses extensive knowledge of the SSX3 scoring to look at my calculations, and tell me where I went astray.

Update: The only way that I can foresee scoring 759,265 points, after combining the score prior to initiating the Combo, the non-Combo score, and the Combo score, is if my first X-X is worth 340 style points, and if all five-tenths of a points on calculated Combo scores are immediately rounded up to the nearest whole number. The first assertion described above is based on the fact that I held my initial X-X for an extensive length of time, and almost wiped out in the process. Consequently, it is not out of the question that the computer added 10 style points to my preexisting 330 style points. In simplest terms, I might have scored 340 points, rather than 330 style points, on my first X-X (i.e., the 340 style point bonus probably registered too late to be visible to the human eye. My second observation is that, after calculating each Combo, if one does not round every Combo score containing five-tenths of a point to the nearest whole number, he or she might arrive at an incorrect calculation. This is important, because adding two five-tenths together yields a sum of one, a derivation from the formula which the computer uses, which rounds two-five tenths to the nearest whole integer immediately, and arrives at a sum of two, creating a difference of one between the former and latter formulaic methods.

I am now going to rework my calculations:

First X-X: (80,670 pts. - 340 style pts.)*(0.55) = 44,182 pts.
Second X-X: (80,770 pts. -- 160 style pts.)*(0.6) = 48,366 pts.
Third X-X: (80,720 pts. -- 340 style pts.)*(0.65) = 52,247 pts.
Fourth X-X: (81,100 pts. -- 240 style pts.)*(0.7) = 56,602 pts.
Fifth X-X: (81,140 pts. -- 330 style pts.)*(0.75) = 60,608 pts.

Now, when my Combo score (262,005 points) is added to my non-Combo score (497,260 points), I receive a total score of 759,265 points--the same grand sum which the computer arrives at.
Perhaps I am privy to where I erred in my calculations now.

Take care, everyone, and study the replay.

Best Wishes to All,

Here is a link to the Perpendiculous SSX3 Combo System Study, where I analyze the SSX3 Combo system in much greater detail than my Perpendiculous SSX3 Combo calculations video. Here is a link to that particular video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0IdoKTTpzs. Here is the text which accompanies my YouTube video:

Hi YouTubers:

In this particular video, I analyze the SSX3 Combo system. (Note: I restart after I finish a given combo, although the first demonstration is not a combo, since nothing follows my initial trick.)

Non-Combo Score Totals for Repeated Back Flips

1. 1,800 pts.*(1) = 1,800 pts.
2. 1,800 pts. + 900 pts. = 2,700 pts.
3. 1,800 pts. + 900 pts. + 600 pts. = 3,300 pts.
4. 1,800 pts. + 900 pts. + 600 pts. + 450 pts. = 3,750 pts.
5. 1,800 pts. + 900 pts. + 600 pts. + 450 pts. + 360 pts. = 4,110 pts.
6. 1,800 pts. + 900 pts. + 600 pts. + 450 pts. + 360 pts. + 300 pts. = 4,410 pts.
7. 1,800 pts. + 900 pts. + 600 pts. + 450 pts. + 360 pts. + 300 pts. + 250 pts. = 4,660 pts.
8. 1,780 pts. + 900 pts. + 600 pts. + 450 pts. + 360 pts. + 300 pts. + 250 pts. + 220 pts. = 4,860 pts.
9. 1,800 pts. + 900 pts. + 600 pts. + 450 pts. + 360 pts. + 300 pts. + 250 pts. + 220 pts + 200 pts. = 5,080 pts.
10. 1,800 pts. + 900 pts. + 600 pts. + 450 pts. + 360 pts. + 300 pts. + 250 pts. + 220 pts. + 200 pts. + 180 pts. = 5,260 pts.
11. 1,800 pts. + 900 pts. + 600 pts. + 450 pts. + 360 pts. + 300 pts. + 250 pts. +220 pts. + 200 pts. + 180 pts. + 160 pts. = 5,420 pts.
12. 1800 pts. + 900 pts. + 600 pts. + 450 pts. + 360 pts. + 300 pts. + 250 pts. + 220 pts. + 200 pts. + 180 pts. + 160 pts. + 160 pts. = 5,580 pts.

Combo Point Values for Repeated Back Flips (1 Means First in a Combo, Etc.)

1. (1800 pts.)*(.55 combo) = 990 combo pts.
1. (1780 pts.)*(.55 combo) = 979 combo pts.
2. (900 pts.)*(.6 combo) = 540 combo pts.
3. (600 pts.)*(.65 combo) = 390 combo pts.
4. (450 pts.)*(.7 combo) = 315 combo pts.
5. (360)*(.75 combo) = 270 combo pts.
6. (300)*(.8 combo) = 240 combo pts.
7. (250 pts.)*(.85 combo) = 212.5 combo pts.
8. (220 pts.)*(.9 combo) = 198 combo pts.
9. (200 pts.)*(.95 combo) = 190 combo pts.
10. (180 pts.)*(1 combo) = 180 combo pts.
11. (160 pts.)*(1.05 combo) = 168 combo pts.
12. (160 pts)*(1.1 combo) = 176 combo pts.

The Sum of the Non-Combo Score and Combo Points Yields the Final Score

1. 1,800 pts. + 0 combo pts. = 1800 pts.
2. 2,700 pts. + 990 combo pts. + 540 combo pts. = 4,230 pts. - 2 pts. =4,228 pts.
3. 3,300 pts. + 990 combo pts. + 540 pts. + 390 combo pts. = 5,220 pts. -- 3 pts. = 5,217 pts.
4. 3,750 pts. + 990 combo pts. + 540 combo pts. + 390 combo pts. + 315 combo pts. = 5,985 pts. - 4 pts. = 5,981 pts.
5. 4,110 pts. + 990 combo pts. + 540 combo pts. + 390 combo pts. + 315 combo pts. + 270 combo pts. = 6615 pts. -- 4 pts. = 6611 pts.
6. 4,410 pts. + 990 combo pts. + 540 combo pts. + 390 combo pts. + 315 combo pts. + 270 combo pts. + 240 combo pts. = 7.155 pts. -- 5 pts. = 7,150 pts.
7. 4,660 pts. + 990 combo pts. + 540 combo pts. + 390 combo pts. + 315 combo pts. + 270 combo pts. + 240 combo pts. + 212.5 combo pts. = 7617.5 pts. + .5 pts. = 7,618 pts.
8. 4,860 pts. + 979 combo pts. + 540 combo pts. + 390 combo pts. + 315 combo pts. + 270 combo pts. + 240 combo pts. + 212.5 combo pts. + 198 combo pts. = 8,004.5 pts. + 4.5 pts. = 8,009 pts.
9. 5,080 pts. + 990 combo pts. + 540 combo pts. + 390 combo pts. + 315 combo pts. + 270 combo pts. + 240 combo pts. + 212.5 combo pts. + 198 combo pts. + 190 combo pts. = 8,425.5 pts. + 4.5 pts. = 8,429 pts.
10. 5,260 pts. + 990 combo pts. + 540 combo pts. + 390 combo pts. + 315 combo pts. + 270 combo pts. + 240 combo pts. + 212.5 combo pts. + 198 combo pts. + 190 combo pts. + 180 combo pts. = 8,785.5 pts. + 3.5 pts. = 8,789 pts.
11. 5,420 pts. + 990 combo pts. + 540 combo pts. + 390 combo pts. + 315 combo pts. + 270 combo pts. + 240 combo pts. + 212.5 combo pts. + 198 combo pts. + 190 combo pts. + 180 combo pts. + 168 combo pts. = 9,113.5 pts. + 6.5 pts. = 9.120 pts.
12. 5,580 pts. + 990 combo pts. + 540 combo pts. + 390 combo pts. + 315 combo pts. + 270 combo pts. + 240 combo pts. + 212.5 combo pts. + 198 combo pts. + 190 combo pts. + 180 combo pts. + 168 combo pts. + 176 combo pts. = 9,449.5 pts. + 9.5 pts. = 9,459 pts.

From a Combo of 10X on, a regular pattern emerges: 3.5 pts., 6.5 pts., 9.5 pts. are added to the total to arrive at the grand total (i.e., in terms of pts.)

Take care, everyone, and study the live run.

Best Wishes to All,
QuotidianPerfection

Can you show me, "step-by-step," why the computer arrived at total of 759,265 points, rather than 759,269 points, or 759,270 points? I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
QP

Hi All:

It seems as if I am beginning to understand, in depth, how the SSX3 Combo system works. Here is my latest attempt at analyzing the SSX3 Combo System: Perpendiculous SSX3 5,025,270 Points (Six Spin-First X-X's—Yin Jung Peng Dedication) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juZ5l7wo3g0).

Here is the description of the YouTube video stated herein:

Hi YouTubers:

I dedicate the following 5,025,270 point run, with six spin-first X-X's in it, to Yin Jung Peng, and wish him the best of luck in the development of his Channel. In this particular run, I started with a 22X Combo. Now, prior to calculating my run, I would like to share how to attain a more precise estimation of Super Pipe Multipliers with others. The SSX3 regular Combo formula for determining Super Pipe Multipliers can be described thusly: Combo Multiplier = (18/33 -- Combo*2/1,485) + (Combo)*(3/55 -- Combo/7,425). Nevertheless, there is an easier method of calculating Super Pipe Combo Multipliers -- (4,050 -- 10*Combo + 406*Combo -- Combo^2)/(7,425).

However, if an SSX3 Super Pipe player wants accurate estimates of their Super Pipe runs without making multiple calculations, I will list the fractional values of all of the Super Pipe Combo Multipliers (see below).

0X = 6/11 11X = 2,758/2,475 21X = 3,968/2,475
1X = 44/675 12X = 2,882/2,475 22X = 12,256/7,425
2X = 1,612/2,475 13X = 9,016/7,425 23X = 382/225
3X = 1,472/2,475 14X = 3,128/2,475 24X = 4,318/2,475
4X = 5,614/7,425 15X = 130/99 25X = 532/297
5X = 80/99 16X = 10,114/7,425 26X = 1,516/825
6X = 2,128/2,475 17X = 388/275 27X = 518/275
7X = 6,766/7,425 18X = 1,204/825 28X = 14,326/7,425
8X = 794/825 19X = 11,194/7,425 29X = 4,888/2,475
9X = 76/75 20X = 14/9 30X = 200/99
10X = 316/297

Hence, to attain a conservative estimate of my run, I will set up the following equation: Total Points from Combo Build (i.e., with Combo) + Total Points from Rail Slide (i.e., with Combo) + Regular Score (i.e., for X-X's) + Combo Score (i.e., for X-X's) = Final Score. I am going to guess that my Combo build is worth about 60,000 points, my rail slide, with the Combo, is approximately 54,800/33 points (i.e., with the Combo—1800 + 1800*200/9 = 54,800/83 points), and my Non-Combo score is worth 21X. My Combo score can be expressed in the following sequence: (12,256/7,425X + 382/225X + 4,318/2,475X + 532/297X + 1,516/825X + 518/275X + 14,326/7,425X + 4,888/2,475X + 200/99*13). Let's combine the variables: 458,661/7,425X. Now, let's set up the equation, this time using numbers rather than verbal expressions: 60,000 + 54,800/33 + 458,661/7,425X = 5,025,270. In the following equation, X = 198,873,742/2,475. To be fair, it is necessary to add one point to the score to ensure that we score more than 5.025,270 points, since decimal values will result in scores less than that mark. Hence, to score 5,025,270 points on this given Perpendiculous run, I would have to average 80,354 points for all twenty-one X-X's which I turned.

Take care, everyone, and study the replay.

Best Wishes to All,
QuotidianPerfection

Here's another update on my discovery about the SSX3 Combo System:

Perpendiculous SSX3 Combo System Multiplier Study (Live Run)

Hi All:

I pieced together the following charts in hopes that SSX3 players can comprehend, in detail, how the SSX3 Combo System works during Perpendiculous runs. This chart is based on my Perpendiculous SSX3 Combo System Multiplier Study (Live Run): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRcMQrp8ytk. Please remember, though, that this chart is only an estimate of the SSX3 Combo System, which, due to the multiplicity of variables involved (e.g., stalls and canceled UBERS), requires an equation which takes into account the vast amount of tricks which can transpire during a Freestyle Event. Usually only a computer possesses that type of capability. (See my chart below.)

After studying the SSX3 Combo System, I believe that the Combo Multiplier = (.1X + Combo*.01X). In the former equation, .1X represents a number greater than one-half, but less than eleven-twentieths. .01X signifies a number greater than one-twentieth, but less than eleven-two-hundreds. The Combo stands for a number between zero and thirty, which is multiplied by .01X before that ensuing product is added to .1X.

If one desires to use a frontend estimation technique to calculate his or her Perpendiculous Combo Multipliers rapidly, then I advise one to consult the following formula, brought to the SSX Gravitude Bar Forum Board’s attention by RE Virus, for the aforementioned purpose: Combo Multiplier = (.5 + Combo*.05).

However, if one desires a better appreciation of how the Combo Multiplier works on the Perpendiculous Super Pipe Freestyle Event, then one should, if he or she owns a scientific calculator, use the fractional values shown in the chart above. For example, if I build a 25X Combo on a Perpendiculous run, what is my Multiplier? Let’s multiply 293/56 by 1/10 and 293/56 by 1/100, and plug the answers into the formula, which includes the 25X Combo. (293/560 + 25*293/5,600) = 1.83125.

If one does not possess a scientific calculator, then he or she can use an arithmetic calculator, and execute the same computations using the decimal approximates of the fractional values. The approximate value of 293/56 is 5.232142857. Let’s also use .1, the decimal equivalent of 1/10, and .01, the decimal equivalent of 1/100, and set up an equation. (.1*5.232142857 + 25*.01*5.232142857) = 1.83125. I get the same value using a scientific calculator. If one does these calculations with an arithmetic calculator, though, the value might not be exact, but will be very close.

Now, let’s use a frontend estimate, and see what figure we attain. (.5 +25*.05) = 1.75. The rounding error in the frontend estimate is 1.83125 – 1.75, or .08125.

Take care, everyone—I hope my chart helps you!

Best Wishes to All,

NEWS ALERT--i HAVE PERFORMED TWO MORE STUDIES!

The first study is found in the following YouTube video of mine: Perpendiculous SSX3 5,173,168 (Combo Fractional Multiplier Study): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJQDVYK28TU.

Here is the description to that particular video:

Hi YouTubers:

In this given Perpendiculous run, I scored 5,173,168 points. I have discovered that analyzing the SSX3 Combo System in detail has afforded me the opportunity to attain such high scores on the Perpendiculous Super Pipe Freestyle Event. If one, for instance, wants to understand how to attain a Combo Multiplier as simply as possible, then he or she should divide the Combo score by the regular score. I’ll give all of the fractional values of the SSX3 Perpendiculous Combo Multipliers (see below).

0X = 989/1,800
1X = 539/900 11X = 179/160 21X = 13/8 31X = 163/80
2X = 389/600 12X = 187/160 22X = 67/40 32X = 163/80
3X = 157/175 13X = 39/32 23X = 17/10
4X = 3/4 14X = 303/160 24X = 29/16
5X = 239/300 15X = 211/160 25X = 293/160
6X = 69/80 16X = 11/8 26X = 301/160
7X = 101/110 17X = 57/40 27X = 309/160
8X = 189/200 18X = 237/160 28X = 317/160
9X = 1 19X = 243/160 29X = 163/80
10X= 171/160 20X = 63/40 30X = 163/80

In this particular video, I had anywhere from a 27X to a 30X Combo. My rail slide at the end of the video was probably worth 3,667 ½ points (i.e., including the Combo), and my Combo score most likely totaled 60,000 points (i.e., including the Combo). My final spin / flip heading into the Finish Line was probably worth 4686 ¼ points (i.e., including the Combo). When subtracted these three numbers from 5,173,168 points, we get a total of 5,104,814 ¼ points. Now, let’s see how high we have to score in order to surpass the score above when using a 27X, 28X, or 29X-30X Combo.

27X (309/160 + 1)*X + (317/160 + 1)*X + 19*(163/80 + 1)*X = 5,104,814 ¼ points
80,233 points (the answer) + 1 = approximately 80,233 points (the final answer)

28X (317/160 + 1)*X + 20*(163/80 +1)*X = 5,104,814 ¼ points
80,099 (the answer) + 1 = approximately 80,100 points (the final answer)

29X-30X Combo 21*(163/80 + 1)*X = 5,104,814 ¼ points
80,028 points (the answer) + 1 = approximately 80,029 points (the final answer)

The second study is found in the following YouTube video of mine: Perpendiculous SSX3 5,100,853 (Combo DecimalMultiplier Study): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=difMYWnBedE.

Here is the description to thar given movie:

Hi YouTubers:

I scored 5,100,853 points on this particular Perpendiculous run. I will use it to show how to estimate X-X turns by using the SSX3 Combo Decimal Multiplier System (see below).

0X = .549444444
1X = .598888888 11X = 1.11875 21X = 1.625 31X = 2.0375
2X = .648333333 12X = 1.16875 22X = 1.675 32X = 2.0375
3X = .697777777 13X = 1.21875 23X = 1.7
4X = .75 14X = 1.26875 24X = 1.8125
5X = .796666666 15X = 1.31875 25X = 1.83125
6X = .8635 16X = 1.375 26X = 1.88125
7X= .918181818 17X = 1.425 27X = 1.93125
8X = .945 18X = 1.48125 28X = 1.98125
9X = 1 19X = 1.51875 29X = 2.0375
10X = 1.06875 20X = 1.575 30X = 2.0375

In this given video, I had anywhere a 25X Combo. My rail slide at the end of the video was probably worth 3,667.5 points (i.e., including the Combo), and my Combo score most likely totaled 60,000 points (i.e., including the Combo). When subtracting these two numbers from 5,100,853 points, we get a total of 5,037,185.5 points. Now, let’s see how high we have to score in order to surpass the score above when using a 25X Combo.

25X (1.83125 + 1)*X + (1.88125 +1)*X + (1.93125 + 1)*X + (1.98125 + 1)*X + 17*(2.0375 + 1) = 5,037,185.5
79,623 points (the answer) + 1 = approximately 79,624 points (the final answer)

Take care, everyone, and study the replays.

Best Wishes to All,
QuotidianPerfection

Can you show me, "step-by-step," why the computer arrived at total of 759,265 points, rather than 759,269 points, or 759,270 points? I would greatly appreciate it.

Yeah... you just sit there and wait.

Hi RE Virus:

I had no idea, when I began my study, that the SSX3 Combo system is that complicated, but it seems, at least from my observations, that the SSX3 Combo System uses decimal values that can carry more than two decimal places to the right, making a substantial difference in actual scores and estimates due to rounding error [eg. 80 K point X-X's*3 = 240 K, where, say, 80 K point X-X's*3.025 (a guess)] =242 K points, a difference of 2 K points. I recognize now that there is no way to predict such scores with pinpoint accuracy, something I thought was possible when I launched this particular study.

Best,
QP
