Hello Merp friends, it's March 2015. That means another year of E3 anticipation and expecting SSX to be there for some reason.

Post all yer cool E3 theories, hopes, dreams, expectations, yada yada. I will keep the OP updated with any pertinent info about SSX or EA's E3 presser.

this year's pseudoevidence \| ̄ヘ ̄|/

I still have faith though. E3 Next year in-between FIFA 16 and Madden crap they reuse every year. It'll be there.

A new SSX game for E3 2016?!?! I would totally work on that :)

NA believed SSX would appear at the E3 2015 presser. 2012 dev and most-kicked-from-IRC award winner Tots says he would work on that. Merq fistfight ensues over this enigmatic comment.

Someone over on Neogaf is claiming that a new SSX is indeed in production. Obviously great news if true. I guess we'll just need to wait and see.

    From the E3 2015 thread.

"i know some things about an SSX being in preproduction or at least it was. The 2012 SSX was a success enough just not a huge success"

Of course anyone can make up anything online but I at least tend to believe stuff over on Neogaf more than any other forum. Anyway its the only glimmer of hope I've seen about a new SSX and I'll happily hang on to it.

Mobe posts GAFfer inside information about a possible SSX game in preproduction. GAF confirmed to get its hopes up again and go on an insider witch hunt this June.

The presser will be on June 15th at 1pm PST. Some sources say it's 2.5 hours, others 1 hour. 1 hour is much more likely, with demo time for the press consisting of the rest of the 2.5 hour block. A Wils didn't really mention anything about the presser in his prepared comments for the annual briefing. For reference, he mentioned last year the their conference would contain "6 world premieres" (we all know how that turned out). It could be that they don't want to disappoint again, or that they would say something like that but this year is gonna be so bad they can't even. Let's hope for the former, lol.

The following link shows the trademark history of SSX containing the official documents/applications necessary for EA to own the name. You will notice that EA recently applied to renew the trademark on Nov 25, 2014 and the application was accepted on Dec 22, 2014 for "computer game software and related instruction manuals sold together as a unit." The last time this happened was March 2, 2011...about one year before SSX 2012 released.

Man, i sure do hope some ssx info will be announced, i highly doubt it but i still have faith so i just voted YEAH. Even if there is going to be a new SSX game, it will probs be on the next generation console which i dont have any but it would still be dope. also, what does OP stand for? :??? The only thing i hope in a new ssx game is Psymon is there, hes kind of old so its a low chance he is going to be in it but i hope he is. If hes not then im going to cry everyday all day :cry

This could probably get more action in Playground if you want me to move it there, City (let me know.)

There isn't anything that I could see to make it very likely that a new SSX will be revealed at E3, sadly.

I've voted yeah out of shear optimism. Lets assume that guy over on GAF is right and a new game is indeed in production then EA may use E3 as a platform to launch a short pre-rendered teaser trailer. Just to let the world know a new SSX game is a definite thing and get people talking. Then again SSX isn't a massive franchise and any announcement would likely get lost in the news amongst all the other bigger games clamouring for headlines and attention. I guess a game like SSX is probably better announced at another smaller games conference later in the year.

My theory is SSX 2012 was successful enough for them to seriously consider making a sequel but that it unfortunately arrived just too late in the day for them to make it worthwhile doing on the last generation of consoles. I genuinely think we'll get one sooner rather than later for this generation.

Good point, thanks g! I guess it doesn't matter though since I just wanted to make a dump thread for anyone who shows up in the next few months and wants to know what's going on, lol.

I'd bet my hat on not even a prerendered trailer. The devs wanted to get the fans involved even earlier than with 2012, and they didn't announce they were out of pre-pro until 4 months after the game was teased at the VGAs. Hypothetically, I think it'd be a Criterion IP-style announcement, dev diaries and concept art and 'conceptual prototypes' so they could continuously get feedback from the public. Unless, you know, they announced a remake or something, then it wouldn't matter haha.

That's a good point - and one that is an object lesson. They decided on a game direction that pleased the EA Brass more than it pleased the gaming public. The Deadly Descents direction was pushed out the door before they did any real studying of what sort of SSX game people wanted. The team then had to do PR "apology" videos to convince the public that the SSX game wasn't a nitty gritty "Call of Duty" style game.

By the way, where is post on Neogaf where the guy says a new game is in production? I'd like to see that.

Someone called 'block tower' posted it about a quarter the way down this page http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=993233&page=9

Doesn't mean we'll defo get a new SSX of course but it does sound legit.

Read on the following pages after it. There's a bit more discussion about it. Certainly a few people would like to see a new SSX anyway it seems.

That could explain why Batty disappeared, it would certainly be a very welcome surprise.

With that said, nothing else has really pointed to an SSX announcement at E3. I will be crossing my fingers.

All sounds promising, but taken with a pinch of salt - would be great to hear something though :yes

Just as an FYI, here's what that guy Block Tower said on this Neogaf topic:

Block Tower wrote:
i know some things about an SSX being in preproduction or at least it was. the 2012 SSX was a success enough just not a huge success. Mirrors Edge was not some huge financial success yet a small but vocal community got EA to green-light Mirrors Edge sequel/prequel. im sure the potential consumer base is larger for SSX than it is for Mirrors Edge.

So whatever news he heard was at some point dated, and we know how projects fare in seclusion at EA. The only thing I see supporting this is that Batty went MIA a while ago (how long has it been, like a year? Last tweet was September of 2013) So it's possible he is working on the guts of a new project for next gen. Last gen is a lost cause at this point, anything coming out would be pushed forward to next gen. If he is working on it, here's to hoping he's able to summit that mountain (pun intended :heh ) like he was last time. :yes

However, I would say the odds are more against than for - then again, Batty does know I'm a pessimist (like when I doubted Classic Controls were back. :heh)

That thread was legendary: viewtopic.php?t=9441

Actually this is the most optimistic you've been in years!! :P Really though, it's nice there's a plausible theory behind it atm rather than just wishful thinking. I would imagine it would take a lot of work to get going depending how ambitious the project is. I mean, just think about the number of programs/technology they created to make 2012 a reality. They don't have numbers on their side, inside or outside, so they probs have to go big here.

Okay, let's do some math, just for fun: 2012 was started by Summer 2009, put on hiatus, and announced Fall 2010. Assuming Batty was on the project the whole time and considering FaceBreaker was released at the end of 2008, mid-2009 makes sense. That puts a year and six months between the project start date and the announcement. Here, he went into hiding in September 2013. That plus a year and six months is...this month. Like, right now guys. They've had just enough time to prepare something for E3 if they have been working on something. #JUSTSAYING #BELIEVEINBATTY2k15

Hahahaha I've been quoted.

Up to Batty now not to let my dreams end in vain ;)

I do hope it will be here though, and still bealieve it will. It'll all go black and the screen will turn to the misty mountains and we'll see Elise/Mac ready to tear it up.

Just to clarify for me (because I don't know how all this kind of stuff works) what are the chances of another company besides EA picking up the SSX series in the future?

I'd say veeery unlikely. Sometimes they outsource a title, say Bluepoint was doing a port or remake, but they'd never give up the entire series. You'd have to be Crytek levels of desperate to sell off a decent IP like that.

There are two possibilities I can think of.

1) EA sells the SSX franchise to another company. I think this is unlikely. EA never sells franchises even if they haven't made a game of that franchise in two decades because they like to hold the power that comes with the franchise.

2) EA licenses the game. In other words they allow another company to develop the game but they keep some of the profit. Maybe they would do it with one of their subsidiaries (e.g. DICE). The other thing they could do is have another company like Sony or Microsoft pay for the whole development of their game and in turn it will be an exclusive like Titanfall was.

BUT, there is Nintendo which has its own snowboard game called 1080. They could do something, but they haven't done anything in 10 years with it. There is also Microsoft's Amped and I think Activision could do something if they really really wanted to. All of those games could easily add uber tricks. There is no patent on uber tricks or anything that is in SSX. :)

How would you react if was a new gen remaster? They seem to be all the rage these days, I could see them doing like a digital rerelease for PS4. A new game would be nice, but I'd be sort of ok with a remaster too if it fixed some stuff

-60fps
-draw distance and whatever

Plus that whole race AI thing, it would be nice if you could race against something else than ghosts in Explore mode. Though I suppose maybe it would be tough implementing it on those tracks? Like there were a couple events with AI in the story mode, but then they didn't bother adding it on any other tracks, so I suppose there was some reason for that?

Also all this time I really wanted to be able to change weather and time of day myself ._.

City really is editing this to account for each and every day that goes by. :heh Awesome. :cheers

I think a rerelease is more likely than a new game, but I wonder how successful it would be unless they devoted resources to expanding the multiplayer. They'd essentially be going for what they wanted to do with SSX Tricky, and I wouldn't be surprised if they turned that into a new game. Still - interesting idea! :yes

I wonder how much it costs to make these games. Assuming they would use the same engine, they really only need to create new tracks and stuff I guess, plus characters and cosmetics like that. Plus it probably wouldn't be bogged down by a bad reveal, so overall it would have an easier time than the previous one. Fun and colors seem to have come back to games a bit too, so maybe there's more of a market for this type of game at the moment

A port can't cost much either, didn't they port 2012 to Android at some point? If they put it on the PS store for like ten bucks, they'd probably be in the green. Don't know if it would be worthwhile anyway though. I think the online is fine generally, except that no one plays it anymore. But maybe you mean splitscreen?

In all honesty TrickyEmu, Licensing or selling the SSX franchise to other game making companies I don't really think it's a good idea. Cause if you kind of think about it a lot of SSX Fans will have surprising reactions when they realize that SSX was not just made by EA/EA Sports but say for one like DICE. What I've known from DICE's games especially battlefield they are getting utterly hated by fans of Battlefield because of a huge amount of ridiculous reasons. It would also ruin the tradition of SSX. SSX should just remain in EA's hands and should always be. Just my opinion.

And I hope to hear something for a next SSX not giving my hopes up now :)

I just had this thought and it broke my heart. What if SSX went the way of Tony Hawk games?

I literally started working out if I could make a remake of SSX Tricky Yesterday, now since I saw this post, I'm going to wait until after E3 with my fingers crossed EA will do it for me :)

Didn't Tony Hawk say they were working on a new game in the THPS franchise? Maybe we *should* wish it to be more like THPS. :|

I wouldn't put money on an SSX Tricky remake- primarily because Todd Batty said they had lost most of the assets from the first 3 games. They only found bits and pieces and that would make recreating all those assets prohibitively expensive. I think the best bet might be a SSX 2012 rerelease on new consoles, or a new game altogether.
